Welcome to studying forestry and becoming part of the forestry student community! As a new student, you can join our student organization if you wish and get involved in other activities organized by it. But what exactly is a student organization? This following text will answer that question. We will also explain the roles of the board, why you should consider applying to join the board, and why becoming a member of the student organization is worthwhile.

Joensuu Forestry Students' Association (JMYO) is the organization for forestry students at the University of Eastern Finland. The association's purpose is to develop forestry education and research at the university, promote the common interests of forestry students, and support its members' engagement in forestry, culture, and physical activities.

The board is responsible for managing the association’s affairs, preparing documents for meetings, maintaining a membership list, and managing the association's finances and archives. The board’s activities include making various proposals and initiatives, publishing the "Vänkäri" magazine twice a year, and organizing sporting events, discussion sessions, and study trips. Additionally, the board maintains contact with academic and other similar organizations, as well as forestry professional circles. Decisions are made during board meetings. Overall, the board functions as a team, where each member's responsibilities align with their designated areas.

You should consider applying to join our student organization’s board because there is sure to be a role that suits your interests and skills (such as chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, finances, communications, event coordinator, international coordinator, sports coordinator, advocacy officer, Vänkäri editor-in-chief, or Joensuu representative of Loimu students). By joining the board, you will have the opportunity to influence decisions, develop your own skills, and add some variety to your study routine. Moreover, board activities provide excellent networking opportunities.

It is worth joining our student organization because, as a member, you can participate in the events we organize and benefit from other membership perks. The membership fee is 20 € upon joining and is valid for the entire duration of your studies.
